National Demolition Training Group (NDTG) is proud to have joined Talentview Construction (TVC) – a new Government-backed and CITB industry levy-funded scheme to help young people find their first jobs, apprenticeships and traineeships in construction and the built environment. NDTG’s addition as an industry Training Provider to the TVC system is imminent.
The newest addition to the Construction Talent Retention Scheme (CTRS) which was established by the Government and the Construction Leadership Council in July 2020 to help tackle the risk of job losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Talentview Construction now aims to tackle a related problem – the skills shortages affecting all trades, professions and projects in construction.
Even without the growth of ‘green jobs’, it is estimated that the construction industry needs to recruit more than 217,000 new workers between now and 2025 to support its current activity, including the development of new careers in digitalisation and sustainability.
Talentview Construction makes it easier for those searching for a career in construction to join, taking advantage of an exciting array of opportunities, given the sector’s role at the heart of the UK’s economic recovery. Construction already employs about three million people, providing multiple career paths through the sector.
Mark Reynolds, CEO of Mace Group and the Construction Leadership Council’s lead on skills, describes TVC as “a shop window for all those wishing to enter the industry as new entrants and career changers – a real opportunity to attract the new skills we need and to improve the diversity of the industry.”
Together with complementary sites like CITB’s Go Construct and the support of strategic partners such as the National Apprenticeship Service, TVC and the CTRS help to create a ‘one stop shop’ sector talent hub for the attraction, development and retention of people and skills within construction and the built environment, as part of the Government’s broader support to business on skills.
Howard Button, CEO at NDTG says: “Post-Brexit, the skills shortage in the demolition sector is having an even greater impact on our demolition employer members in the UK. Talentview Construction is an excellent initiative, enabling free and fast connection between employers and candidates and providing vital information and advice about careers in the construction sector. I urge everyone to recognise the significance of this scheme and its potential to help us recruit new people into our sector. It’s so easy to get involved.”
Talentview Construction will enable candidates to browse opportunities by signing up to alerts for job and training opportunities, get advice on construction job roles and the best routes into the industry, and build their own online profile so employers can find them.
Employers can use it to showcase their business to talented new recruits on the TVC site, and upload all their early career vacancies, including traineeships, apprenticeships and graduate jobs. They can also search for suitable candidates and directly contact students and apprentices, as well as connecting more closely with schools, universities and construction colleges.
Talentview officially launches to the public on 21st September and demolition industry employers can find out more by watching the introductory video below, then sign up via the Talentview Construction website.
